Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA) seeks affordable event sites

The Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that teaches pre-seventeenth century skills. Medieval enthusiasts get involved with events such as archery, sword fighting, garb making, armor and weapon crafting, poetry, music, equestrian, and food recipes. All of these hobbies require people to set them up.  That is where the SCA’s group of volunteers come into play. The SCA’s leadership volunteer countless hours and are always looking for more people to get involved. Affordable event sites are becoming rarer and the SCA looks to the community for support.

A Mutually Beneficial Partnership

The SCA is proposing a solution that benefits both the organization and property owners. Members are willing to volunteer their time and labor for land clearing and maintenance projects in exchange for affordable or sponsored access to sites for their events. This arrangement can help landowners manage overgrown areas, clear brush for fire prevention, maintain trails, or prepare properties for other uses. For city and park departments, hosting SCA events brings cultural enrichment to communities and free advertising for future revenue. The organization prides itself on environmental stewardship, leaving sites cleaner than they found them and causing minimal impact to natural areas.

The SCA Also Offers

XXV. Insurance Matters is found in the officer’s manual. The SCA maintains insurance that covers the corporation and its officers. Any specific insurance questions are directed to the Corporate Office (1). Their Societies values include honor, responsibility, humility, equality, integrity, harassment-free, and transparency. Members of the organization who have titles have demonstrated these values and hold others accountable to uphold them. Hundreds of people show up to big SCA events. Site exposure to the public can bring unique opportunities.

Capacity Requirements for Different Event Sizes

SCA events can be as small as 20 people. Indoor venues are needed, weather permitting. Properties that could accommodate a 20-yard archery field for tournaments are highly sought after. Properties that can accommodate 100 plus tents are needed throughout the year for big events. Check out pictures on Facebook for an inside look of events.

Conclusion

Deals can be made to benefit all parties involved. The SCA would like to trade labor for rates, they need more affordable event sites. Many benefits come with working with this non-profit, volunteer-based organization. Contact the board director chair Mark Faulcon to find out how a property near you could host a Medieval Event.
